Tapper grew up in Queen Village, where Tapper's father was a professor at Jefferson Medical College, and his mother was a retired psychiatric nurse.

Concerning academic qualifications, Tapper joined Akiba Hebrew Academy based in Merion, Pennsylvania. 

Later, he graduated with Bachelors's in history modified by visual studies via Dartmouth College. Furthermore, Tapper attended the University of Southern California School of Cinema-Television.

Jake first met his wife at a hotel bar in 2004, while he was covering the Iowa caucuses for Good Morning America.

Since the marriage, Jake and his spouse share two children, a daughter Alice Paul Tapper and a son Jack Tapper Jr. Jake and Jennifer's daughter Alice has also authored a picture book titled Raise Your Hand.

Jake began his journalism career as a full-time senior writer at Washington City Paper. Before that he worked as a Campaign Press Secretary for Democratic congressional candidate Majorie Margolies-Mezvinsky.

Jake also received the Society of Professional Journalists award for his credits at Washinton City Paper. Later, Tapper served as a host for CNN's talk show Take Five in 2001. 

Later in 2003, he worked for ABC News and covered a wide range of events and stories which includes a hurricane, Katrina.

After the 2008 Presidential election, Jake became the Senior White House Correspondent on 5th November. During the time, Tapper interviewed, ex-president of U.S.A. Barrack Obama many times.
