Brook started his career with BBC as a news trainee in April 1976. He was appointed as a producer on Radio 4's Today program in 1978, after working attachments in Belfast, Birmingham, and Manchester. Moreover, He was the first British journalist to report live on the night of John Lennon's death. He said from outside the Dakota Apartment building on the Upper West Side of New York on December 8, 1980.
