Vernon Odom is a married man. He first met his wife at the time of reporting in Philadelphia, Wanda Motley, a former Inquirer reporter. Since then, the duo started dating and soon got engaged. The couple married in a private ceremony in Philadelphia.

In addition, the couple shares two children; they first welcomed their daughter on 1995 and after two years, they became parents for second time with the birth of son, Lane Odom (1997). As of now, he resides in Chester County along with his family.

Vernon Odom started his career as a journalist for WPVI-TV in Philadelphia, on 17th May 1976. Furthermore, he has covered a plethora of major stories during his tenure ranging from Presidential debates to the MOVE disaster of 1985. 

He also hosted a weekly look at urban life, Visions in Philadelphia. In November of 2004, he was inducted into the Broadcast Pioneers Hall of Fame.
