Andrew Upton

An Australian playwright, screenwriter, and director, Andrew Upton is best known for Stories of Lost Souls (2005), The Turning (2013), and Carol (2015). In addition to his work, Upton is also known as the husband of award-winning actress, Cate Blanchett.

Upton was born on 1 February 1966 in Australia. However, there is no information about his family background and parents to the media. As per his citizenship, he is Australian whereas ethnicity is not known.

Upton met his future girlfriend Cate Blanchett on the set of a TV show named Thank God He Met Lizzie, in 1996. The pair didn't even like each other when they first met, Cate said on The Ellen Degeneres Show.

However, they met over a game of poker one night. Last but not least, after some alcohol, gambling, and canoodling between the sheets, they decided they actually did like one another. And this is how they met in the beginning.

And after three days of intense dating, the actress of Elizabeth realized that Andrew was the one with him while she was in bed. Fortunately, it was a false alarm. She also said on the show,

"I thought, s--t, he's gonna ask me to marry him and I'm gonna have to say yes and then he said, 'No, I'm hungry. Do you want to go get something to eat?'"

But less than a month fast-forward and Upton was ready to put a ring on it. Around 21 days later he proposed to her and she answered yes. It all happened because of Cate's cooking skills. Because she prepared the worst meal for Andrew.

Altogether the duo who are in the early 50s has three biologicals sons and one adopted girl. On 3 December 2001, they welcomed their first son, Dashiell John. They also had two sons, Roman Robert, who was born April 23, 2004, and Ignatius Martin, born on April 13, 2008.

Upton and Blanchett, however, wanted more kids despite having their own three kids, wasn't enough. The couple then adopted Daughter Edith Vivian Patricia in 2015, the adoption of which was confirmed on 6 March 2015.
