On April 3, 1987, Bloom was born in Los Angeles County, California, and grew up in Manhattan Beach. Shelli (née Rosenberg), a musician, and Alan Bloom, a healthcare lawyer, are her parents. She is of Jewish ancestry. Bloom went to public schools in Manhattan Beach, including Mira Costa High School, where she was active in the theatre department.

Bloom earned a BFA in Drama from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts in 2009. While there, Dan's wife was the chief writer and director of Hammerkatz, NYU's finest sketch comedy company.
