Kathleen Matthews

Kathleen Matthews is the former public affairs officer and communications for Marriott International hotel company. She previously served at WJLA-TV for more than 2 decades as a reporter. She was also the US House of Representatives candidate in the 2016 elections, moreover, worked as chair of the Maryland Democratic Party.

Matthews was born in San Francisco, California, US, as Kathleen Ann Cunningham on August 9, 1953. She holds US citizenship.

Kathleen started her career as a production assistant at ABC's Washington DC affiliate WJLA. From 1982 to 1991, she worked as a reporter and writer. Later anchored at ABC for 15 years.

Her hard-work lead her to gain 2002 Washingtonian of the Year by Washingtonian magazine, and Washington Business Journal named her as Woman Who Means Business. Later she received an Edward R. Murrow Award and also been awarded nine local Emmys.

Kathleen was chosen to be interim chair of the Mary land Democratic Party after Bruce Poole resigned. Later she was elected to a four-year term as state party Chair. After working for four years, she was replaced as Chair by Maya Rockeymoore Cummings on December 2018.
