Who is Rupert Murdoch?
Starting out as a newspaper publisher in his native Australia, Rupert Murdoch is the founder and head of the worldwide media conglomerate, News Corporation. In 1986, he founded Fox Broadcasting Company.
Rupert Murdoch was born in Melbourne, Australia, on March 11, 1931. His dad Keith Murdoch was a renowned journal and war correspondent. Murdoch inherited the documents of his father, the Sunday Mail and the News, and over the years he continued to buy other media outlets.
A well-respected journalist's son, Murdoch was groomed from a very young age to join the publication world. As for education, in 1949, Murdoch graduated from Geelong Grammar, a prestigious Australian boarding school. Then, he attended Worcester College at Oxford University in England.
When his dad unexpectedly passed away in 1952, Murdoch's fun-loving youthful ways came to an abrupt end. His father Keith left him, his Adelaide journals, the News and the Sunday Mail. Following a short apprenticeship at the Daily Express in London under Lord Beaverbrook in 1953, a 22-year-old Murdoch returned to Australia to take over the reins of his father's papers.
Murdoch immersed himself in all parts of the daily activities of the journals immediately after assuming control of the Sunday Mail and the News. He wrote headlines, redesigned page layouts, and worked in the rooms for printing and typing.
Only three years later, in 1956, by buying the Perth-based Sunday Times, Murdoch extended his activities and refurbished it in the News sensationalist style.
During '80s Murdoch began expanding his media empire into television and entertainment. He purchased 20th Century Fox Film Corporation as well as several independent television stations in 1985. Likewise, consolidated these businesses into Fox, Inc., which has since become a significant American television network.
Such a huge business tycoon, outlet the news in June 2015 about his retirement from the media empire. Murdoch hand over 21st Century Fox's leadership to his son James Murdoch. Rupert is currently a married man. He tied a nuptial knot with American model Jerry Hall. It is reported that the couple started to see each other in the summer of 2015. The couple whirlwind five-month romance in a full-fledged marriage. The pair married London in March 2016. They later embarked on a French honeymoon.
The most interesting fact is Hall was 60 years old, and Murdoch was 85 years old when they exchanged their wedding vows with each other. So, it's obvious that the couple do not share children.
